This booklet was created for the Exhibition Library (https://monoskop.org/Exhibition_Library), at the Seoul Museum of Art as part of the Seoul Mediacity Biennale 2018. The concept of the exhibition was to celebrate the medium of the exhibition catalogue, by inviting artists to create thirty imaginary catalogues for exhibitions that never took place.
The catalogue presents our symbols, our popular hashtags #imakenoise and #iusemyfeelers within the context of their social media use, alongside screenshots from our social media channels at the time. Through its pages, it reflects the rise of the Purple Noise movement, that had started as a protest against media manipulation and grew exponentially through social media, eventually taking the Internet and traditional media by storm.
But what is real and what is manipulation? The information in the booklet is deliberately obscure, so that the readers have to find out by themselves, by following Purple Noise and thus becoming part of the movement.
